A Flamenco Journey by Scott Mateo Davies
On his latest CD, Mateo covers some interesting territory: a Spanish Knocking on Heaven's Door "por Tanguillos," an Arabic vocal piece driven by darbuka and electronic percussion and featuring Flamenco guitars, a Middle-Eastern adaptation of Manuel de Falla's Danza del Fuego, a lush rendition of Satie's first Gymnopedie, a beachy Bolero, a solo guitar Milonga, plus the more traditional Flamenco guitar Mineras, Farrucas, Solea por Bulerias, and a couple of Bulerias.

With Paths of Convergence, his first solo release, Scott "Mateo" Davies seeks to share his love for the musical forms that have shaped his artistry by bringing together contemporary Flamenco, Astor Piazzolla's Tango Nuevo and the innovative folk songs of Bob Dylan with the music of the Moorish Empire.

My Grandmother's Story
My friend Allison Herrera commissioned me in late 2005 to write the musical sound track for an independent film project she was embarking upon. This is the music I came up with along with a 3 minute clip of the film. Allison sets up the clip in this way:
"My Grandmother's Story" is an intimate portrait of my grandmother. I interviewed her and filmed her for nearly 10 years. It's the story of her as a beloved woman, one with many stories, told by her granddaughter, who always appreciated her as a unique woman.

Let's Have Dinner and Go Dancing with Mandragora Tango
A collection of tangos, vals (waltzes) and milongas (2-steps) recorded in 2005. The tracks range from rollicking guardia vieja (old style) tangos to lush epocha d'ora (golden age) ones, as well as some of Bob Barnes's originals and a curious tango version of Nirvana's Smells Like Teen Spirit. About half of the tracks are with the full orchestra: 2 violins, viola, cello, bass, piano and accordion. Mandragora Tango's 2007 Live Demo Album Mandrágora has taken some of the best tracks that we've recorded this spring and put together a little freebie album for you to enjoy. These are all live tracks recorded in April and May 2007 with Scott Mateo on guitar, Bob Barnes on bandoneón, Christian Zamora on violin and Rahn Yanes on bass. We're planing on our next CD release to be much more studio-oriented and to feature more original, danceable alt-tangos. So we've taken 13 of our best traditional tangos, milongas and vals and made a little album to give away. 7 of these tracks have videos that you can view on YouTube.
